This Okhla-based journalist’s ‘Alvida Daddy’ post leaves social media in tears

Sometimes, a few simple words can say more than a long speech.

Late last night, Okhla-based journalist Asad Ashraf wrote just two words on his timeline: Alvida Daddy. And with that, hundreds of hearts sank.

Only two days earlier, his posts had carried urgency, not farewell. He had written: “Urgently need an ICU bed for my father in Patna. My mother is still struggling to live with her oxygen without support being at 85-88, it’s now my father whose oxygen saturation level has started to dip to 88-90.”

It was not the voice of a reporter. It was the voice of a son in distress. A son trying to arrange help from miles away. A son watching numbers on an oxygen monitor fall and feeling helpless.

Friends, colleagues and well-wishers reacted immediately. Many shared contacts in Patna. Some might have sent private messages offering assistance. Others wrote prayers and words of encouragement. For a brief moment, there was hope that support would reach in time.

But two days later, hope turned into heartbreak.

Ashraf posted about his father’s passing. The message was short, almost quiet, but it carried immense pain. The post quickly began circulating, and people responded with shock and sorrow.

One netizen wrote: “So heartbreaking Asad Ashraf.”

Another netizen Shah Kamal wrote: “Such a sad day got to know 2 deaths of my close friends’ fathers in a day. I cannot forget Asad Ashraf’s father. He was so humble and nice person. I know how painful is to lose father I have experienced it but it’s very tough for anyone to lose loved ones at this time.”

As more people commented, the timeline slowly turned into a space of collective grief. Many shared their own memories of losing a parent. Some simply wrote, “May his soul rest in peace.” Others said they could feel the pain in those two words: Alvida Daddy.

The OT tried to reach Ashraf to write an obituary for his father, but his phone was switched off.

Later in the day, Ashraf updated his profile picture with his father’s photograph and wrote: “Can’t stop thinking of you Daddy!”

There was no long tribute. No detailed announcement. Just a son remembering his father.

Behind the journalist’s public life was a deeply personal loss. And in those few words, social media witnessed something raw, real and painfully human.
