    Jamia student Luckman makes university proud

    Mohd. Luckman Ali, a first year student of Master of Social Work (MSW) programme of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) won a bronze medal in Khelo India University Games (KIUG) in wrestling. More than 200 universities participated in KIUG which is a part of the Government of India’s Khelo India initiative focused towards promoting grassroots sports and identifying young talents from all across the country.

    Luckman called on JMI Vice Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar (Padma Shri) at her office along with Prof. Wasim Ahmed Khan, Director (Sports) and other officials. The Vice Chancellor congratulated Luckman for the great achievement and gave a cash prize of Rs.10,000/- to him.

    Prof. Nazim Husain Al Jafri, Registrar, JMI also congratulated Luckman for the achievement and wished him good luck for his future endeavour.

    Prof. Waseem Ahmad Khan, Director Sports said that Luckman’s name will be recommended to the Sports Committee of the university along with a cash prize to honour him.

    Luckman had brought several laurels for JMI earlier too. He won a Gold Medal in National Ju Jitsu Championship-2023 in Madhya Pradesh, two bronze medals in All India Inter-University Grappling Championship, a silver medal in the National Wrestling Championship organized by the Wrestling Federation of India at Nandani Nagar, Uttar Pradesh in November 2022. He also participated in the 7th edition of Asia Ju Jitsu Championship held in Bangkok, Thailand and finished at fifth rank.

    JMI also participated in Basketball and Lawn Tennis (W) in KIUG this year and the basketball team secured fourth position.
