Jamia alumnus part of India’s 50 metre Rifle 3Ps men’s Gold winning team in Asian Games 2023

India’s 50 metre Rifle 3Ps men’s team of Akhil Sheoran, Aishwary Tomar and Swapnil Kusale won the gold medal in the team event with a new world record at the ongoing Asian Games on Friday.

It is a matter of great pride for the country and particularly for Jamia Millia Islamia(JMI) as Akhil Sheraon is an alumnus of the university. He completed his MBA in Marketing and International Business from JMI in the year 2017.

Jamia Vice Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar (Padma Shri) and Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Eqbal Hussain conveyed their best wishes to Akhil and hoped that he will keep on performing well to bring more medals for the country.

In an interview to a national daily, he praised his teacher Moonis Khan as being very supportive to him during his days at Jamia.

Moonis told the OT that Akhil was a highly motivated athlete. “I saw him work so hard that he was destined for this accomplishment,” said Moonis.

Prof. Waseem Khan, Director, Games & Sports, JMI also wished good luck to Akhil for his future endeavors.

Earlier, he also won gold at 2023 ISSF World Shooting Championship at Baku, Azerbaijan along with compatriots Aishwary Pratap Tomar and Niraj Kumar in men’s 50m rifle 3 position team event with a bronze at men’s 50m rifle 3 position for an individual game.

Akhil, who dreams of winning a medal for the country in the Olympics, said to the media after winning the championship “Jamia has a Wall of Fame with pictures of all the brilliant athletes who pursued their education from the university. I, too, wanted my picture up there one day… This is where I started dreaming big and the Olympics is the answer!”
