Sarita Vihar’s Wall of Honour felicitates martyrs of Okhla, structure thrown open to public

A large number of residents and family members of martyrs turned up at Sarita Vihar’s Wall of Honour on Tuesday as it was thrown open to the residents. After the ribbon cutting ceremony by Councillor Nitu Choudhary, her husband Manish Choudhary and other BJP leaders, residents thronged the area and took selfies in front of the wall.

Residents and family members of the martyrs praised Manish for taking the decision to build Wall of Honour as tribute to security force personnel.

My grandfather name is on the wall and I am proud granddaughter, said Rishi Kapur.

“My husband was a Group Captain in the Indian Air force. We are happy that he has been honoured and thanks to Manish and Nitu,” said another resident.

Swati Sharma, a resident of Sarita Vihar, told the OT: “Great to be part of this historic celebration. It has been created to honour personnel who sacrificed their lives for their country. My father-in-law was wounded twice in Indo-Pak war and I feel honoured to be part of this celebration,” she said.

Architect Puneet Kr Swami, who designed the Wall of Honour, told the OT that he is feeling proud to be part of such historic structure. “We will add more features in coming years. There will be a selfie point where residents can come and take photos in front of this wall,” he said.

Month ago when Neetu Manish Chaudhary planned the wall, she had then said: “We have decided to construct this wall under the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav programme and the main aim is to honour the soldiers and jawans who martyred for our country. The wall will have the names of martyrs from all forces be it from the Indian Army, Air Force, Navy, BSF, CISF and others and the names will be inscribed in golden words.”
