Prof. Ahteshamul Haque has assumed charge as the new Officiating Controller of Examinations (CoE) of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) on 14 November, 2025, following his appointment on 13 November, 2025.

Prof. Haque is currently a Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering, JMI with extensive academic and administrative experience. He has previously served the university in key examination-related roles for more than six years, and strengthened JMI’s examination system by making significant contributions as Honorary Assistant Controller of Examinations and Honorary Deputy Controller of Examinations.

A distinguished academic, Prof. Haque recently received a grant of ₹9.05 crore from the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India, to develop a state-of-the-art “Research Lab for Electric Vehicle” at JMI. His research areas include Power Electronics and its Applications, Renewable Energy, Electric Vehicles, AI, and Automation.

Expressing gratitude on his appointment, Prof. Haque thanked the Honourable Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mazhar Asif, and Registrar, Prof. Md Mahtab Alam Rizvi, for the trust and faith they have bestowed on him. Sharing his vision for the new and crucial responsibility as CoE , JMI, he said: “The CoE office will make all efforts to ensure transparency and time-bound outputs in admissions and examination results. The Honourable Vice-Chancellor and Registrar envision building in-house capabilities for all CoE-related work, and we are progressing on a fast track mode to fulfill this goal”. Prof. Haque added: “A grievance system for students will also be developed soon to address all examination-related concerns online to further enhance and boost the examination system.”
Prof. Haque is globally recognised for his research excellence. He has been featured in the World’s Top 2% Scientists curated by Stanford University, USA, for four consecutive years- 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025.
He is the recipient of several prestigious awards, including: Outstanding Young Engineer Award from the Power and Energy Technical Society, IEEE-USA, for his contributions to Power Electronics and Green Technology. He has also received the ‘Most Well-Read Newsletter Award’ from IEEE-Smart Cities Technical Society, USA, for his widely read article, “Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning & Internet of Medical Things for COVID-19 and Future Pandemics.”
With a strong commitment and focus to advancing research aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Prof. Haque of Jamia has published 165 research articles directly linked to SDGs and their broader themes. He has established a cutting-edge Advanced Power Electronics Research Lab, which gets its electrical power from the Solar PV power plant designed in his lab only. Over the years, he has mobilised research grants of approximately ₹220 lakh and published more than 200 research papers, books, and chapters in reputed journals and conferences. His innovations have also earned him several patents. Recently, he authored the book “Artificial Intelligence for Power Electronics”, published by IEEE Press.
Prof. Haque continues to teach and inspire students across undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels, and serves as the Branch Counsellor of the IEEE-Jamia Technical Society.
